You
will trek through wild forests and country, jeep safari over
mountains and to lakes, white water raft down grade four rapids,
mountain bike, canyon climbing, party, sea kayaking, Turkish bath
and beach barbeque. This holiday has it all. This area offers a huge
variety of landscapes to explore: limestone mountains over 2000m
high, clear blue wild-flowing rivers, deep rocky canyons; cool
forests of pine and sycamore; and one of the best beaches on the
Med, the famous 'Turtle Beach' at Iztuzu, Dalyan. In addition the
region is full of history, in particular the ancient city and rock
tombs of Caunos at Dalyan. Generally 4-6 hours of activity per day.
A unique combination of outdoor activities designed to offer you the
enjoyment of Turkey’s rich wonders of nature.
Day
1 - Dalyan– Iztuzu – Caunos (D)
Dalyan
(base of the activities) Arrival at Dalaman Airport. Transfer
to Dalyan, a charming fishing town, situated next to a
meandering river that winds down through a broad delta of tall
bulrushes to Iztuzu beach. This golden sand is famed for being
one of only a few nesting sites of the endangered Caretta
Caretta turtles. Dalyan is also noted for its 4th century BC
Lycian rock tombs, carved high in the cliff opposite the town,
and for the ruins of the ancient city Caunos. Overnight in
Dalyan.
Day
2 – Trekking - Ekincik(B)
(L) (D)
Trekking.
The next day we walk over a hill to the bay of Ekincik and its
unspoilt beach. It is difficult to access by road and so most
visitors arrive by yacht. The route we take allows us to
explore the ancient ruins of Caunos, with its Roman Baths,
Acropolis, harbour and many other ruins including a Medieval
castle. We walk through pine forests, which hug the dramatic
coastline and arrive in Ekincik for a special picnic lunch
followed by relaxing swimming in the azure crystal waters of
the Mediterranean. During walk observe charming villages with
the people going about their daily life, relatively untouched
by tourism. The journey back is by local wooden boat, which
takes one and a half hours along the rugged coastline, around
Iztuzu beach and winding along the river under the ancient
rock tombs to Dalyan.
Day
3 – Jeep Safari (B)
(L) (D)
Jeep
Safari. From Dalyan we travel past forests of the frankincense
tree before climbing the Boga Dagi 2000m mountain to the high
plateau village of Agla. Along the way we have the opportunity
to view the flora and fauna of the region and visit a special
lake where we have lunch. Wildflowers are plentiful in the
springtime and the cool mountain air of Agla provides a
respite from the summer heat of the coast. Overnight in the
small village of Akkropru where an old Roman bridge spans the
Dalaman river. Overnight in cottages or tents.
Day
4 – Rafting(B)
(L) (D)
Rafting
Enjoy rafting in the Dalaman River; its grade 3-4 white water
rapids (rivers are graded from 1 to 6; 1 being flat, 6 being
impassable). At the river base, meet the guides who explain
the day ahead and equip you with life jackets and helmets,
before the 90 minutes driver on remote forest roads to the
Maden Kopru, where the river is crossed by one of its bridges.
Here rafts are unloaded, you are equipped with your gear, and
the guide explains what to do in the raft. Each raft carries
up to six people and is under the control of an expert guide.
The route passes through a remote area of narrow gorges and
pine forests and finally under the arches of a 2000 year old
Roman bridge, Akkopru. Overnight in Dalyan.
Day
5 –Dalyan - Koycegiz(B)
(L) (D)
Mountain-biking
A biking tour through the countryside around Dalyan and
Koycegiz passing through groves of aromatic ‘liquid amber’
trees, a species found nowhere else in the world, where you
can swim in cool, clear water. The route passes through
several small villages and is via mainly a flat and quiet
road. Approximately 45 km in total. Overnight stay in Dalyan.
Day
6- Canyoning (B)
(L) (D)
Canyoning.
An hour jeep ride takes us to a unique canyon. We swim under
waterfalls, in rock pools and scramble over boulders until the
going gets steeper. Then we use climbing gear to scale shear
waterfalls and huge boulders, which block our path. The cool
air and the crashing sound of the cold, crystal, and flowing
water add to the atmosphere and adventure of the canyon climb.
After our descent and return to Dalyan, we rest.
Day
7- Sea Kayaking(B)
(L) (D)
Sea
Kayaking Explore the reed beds and surroundings of Koycegiz
Lake, a paradise for wildlife such as turtles and birds;
discover islands and forgotten ruins, the healing waters of
natural sulfur hot springs and the channels of the delta of
the Dalyan River, which flows out of the lake. Overnight in
Dalyan.
Day
8- Shopping(B)
(L) (D)
A
beach BBQ follows shopping in the local market. The local
market has many stalls selling (genuine-fake) brand name
watches, clothes, leather goods, shoes and spices, all at
extremely cheap prices. On the beach we consume very generous
portions Ali’s famous BBQ until we are only able to lie down
and relax. In the evening we go to a Hamam, or Turkish Bath,
where we have a sauna, skin exfoliation and massage, leaving
us feeling completely revitalized and fresh.
Day
9- Dalyan (B)
(L) (D)
Reluctantly,
we say good-bye and transfer back to the airport.
