 General Info  Empress Zoe Hotel offers 19 rooms. An attractively designed small hotel two blocks away from the main entrance of Topkapý Palace in the historic centre of Istanbul. Ann Nevans is a former resident of San Fransisco who first came to Sultanahmet in 1989, and never left. She is a mine of useful information for a newcomer in the maze of tourists' Istanbul. The hotel occupies an old townhouse sensitively restored by the Greek designer-artist Nicos Papadakis, making skillful use of historic textures and details. The lobby sits above a cistern of Ottoman — or perhaps Byzantine — origin. The interior is decorated with Byzantine-style paintings, enlivened by warm colours and plenty of Turkish kilims. All rooms have hardwood floors and four-poster beds. A highlight is the garden — a small gem which incorporates the ruin of a 15th century bathhouse next door to immensely picturesque effect. The terrace bar commands a full view of the sea of Marmara. At night the illuminated bulks of the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque loom spectacularly over the roof deck.

 Facilities of the Rooms  We have nineteen rooms individually decorated in combinations of wood and stone warmed up by Turkish kilims, Byzantine paintings and folk art. Every room is uniquely decorated with its own bathroom of marble or terracotta.

 Food & Drink  The terrace bar is on 2 levels with panoramic views of the Marmara Sea, ancient walls, turrets and minarets. The bar has a cosy winter fireplace and opens to a panoramic summer terrace. Turkish breakfast is served on the garden. The garden, where breakfast is served in the season, borders the ruins of an old Turkish bath built in 1483.
